A student who enjoys receiving parcels through the post has created a unique computer program that buys him random gifts online and has them delivered to him. Paul Hunkin from New Zealand has given the program a budget of $1 per day to automatically buy him cheap Ebay items (which are listed with free delivery) on a daily basis.
The idea was inspired by an internet comic strip called ‘Packages’ by XCKD, where a man using a similar computer script begins receiving increasingly disturbing items through the post, which his computer buys for him.
For those interested in joining the 3000 people following what the computer buys for Paul each day, he has kindly set up a Twitter account which lists each day’s purchase. Unfortunately, the very first purchase did not prove very useful for Paul since the script chose to buy some watch batteries without realising that Paul does not, in fact, own a watch.
